How to Spend More Time with God
Have you ever found yourself so caught up in the demands of life that you feel distant from God? Maybe your days are filled with work, family responsibilities, or a never-ending to-do list, leaving little room for quiet time with Him. I’ve been there too, and I know how hard it can be to feel like you’re not spending enough time in God’s presence. But in those moments, I’ve come to realize that it’s not always about the quantity of time we spend with God—it’s about the quality and intention behind it.
Lately, I’ve been reflecting on how I can be more intentional about spending time with God. I don’t always have hours to spare, but I’ve found that even in the busyness of motherhood, work, and daily life, there are ways to invite God into each moment. Spending time with Him doesn’t have to be a rigid routine; it’s about cultivating an open heart and welcoming His presence wherever we are.
Here are six simple ways to embrace His presence in the midst of your busy life and draw closer to Him every day.
1. Start Your Day with Him, Even for a Moment
Mornings can feel chaotic, especially if you’re trying to get everyone ready for the day. But I’ve learned that taking even just a moment in the morning to start my day with God can make all the difference. It doesn’t have to be an elaborate prayer or long quiet time, simply pausing to acknowledge God, express gratitude, and ask for His guidance for the day ahead can shift my focus and set my heart in the right direction.
"In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly." – Psalm 5:3
2. Invite God into Your Routine
We often think of spending time with God as something that happens only in quiet, sacred spaces. But what if we could turn our daily routines into moments of connection with Him? Whether I’m cooking dinner, folding laundry, or driving my daughter to an appointment, I’ve started to pray in those little spaces. I whisper a prayer of gratitude, ask God to bless my family, or just thank Him for His presence in my life. These quiet, simple moments invite God into the ordinary parts of my day.
3. Create Sacred Moments in Your Home
Your home is the perfect place to invite God into your everyday routine. It doesn’t matter if it’s just you or your whole family, prayer, worship, and quiet reflection can transform your space. Make time to pray together, read a Bible story, or simply pause for a moment of gratitude. These small sacred moments will make God’s presence felt in the midst of your family life.
"Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." – Deuteronomy 6:7
4. Scripture: Nourishment for the Soul
God’s Word is alive and active, and it’s one of the best ways to spend time with Him. I’ll be honest, some days can feel overwhelming, and sitting down for a long Bible study just doesn’t happen. But even a few verses a day can help me feel grounded and connected to God. I often reflect on a passage as I go about my day, and I’ve noticed that God uses those scriptures to speak to me in powerful ways. Whether I’m reading a chapter or reflecting on a verse, His Word is a constant source of strength.
"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." – Psalm 119:105
5. Pray in the Moment
I used to think that prayer had to be something formal and long. But I’ve realized that God cares just as much about the little, spontaneous prayers throughout the day. When my heart is heavy, I can lift a quick prayer for peace. When I’m feeling uncertain, I can ask God for wisdom. Throughout the day, I try to engage in prayer, not just when things are hard, but in the moments of joy and gratitude as well.
6. Rest in His Presence
Sometimes, we don’t need to do anything but rest in God’s presence. Life can be overwhelming, and our hearts can get tired. I’ve found that, in those moments, it’s okay to simply sit in quiet, knowing that God is with me. I don’t have to perform or rush; I can just be with Him. And that, in itself, is enough.
"The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still." – Exodus 14:14
Spending time with God doesn’t have to be overwhelming or time-consuming. By intentionally carving out moments throughout your day, you can build a deeper relationship with Him. Remember, it’s about quality, not quantity. Whether it’s through prayer, reading His Word, or simply pausing to reflect on His goodness, God is always there, waiting for us to draw near to Him.
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love and faithfulness. Lord, I long to spend more time with You, but I know that You meet me where I am. Help me to be intentional with my time and find You in the everyday moments. Teach me to rest in Your presence, to listen for Your voice, and to seek You with all my heart. I trust that as I draw near to You, You will draw near to me. Thank You for Your constant care.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
