Unshakable Love: What It Means to Be Loved by God
There is no love greater, deeper, or more unfailing than the love of God. Yet, for so many of us, fully embracing that love can be a struggle. We hear it, we know it in our minds, but do we truly believe it in our hearts?
I’ll be honest, this is something I’ve wrestled with for a long time. I’ve battled feelings of unworthiness, wondering how a perfect, holy God could love someone like me. I’ve let my past mistakes, my struggles, and my own insecurities cloud the truth of who He is and how He loves me. Maybe you’ve felt that way too. Maybe you’ve questioned if you are truly lovable, if you’ve messed up too much, or if God is disappointed in you.
But here’s what I’ve come to realize: God’s love isn’t based on what we’ve done. It’s not something we earn or deserve. It’s who He is.
God’s Love is Unconditional
One of the most beautiful truths in Scripture is that God’s love isn’t like human love, it isn’t dependent on how good we are or how perfectly we follow Him. His love is steadfast, unwavering, and freely given.
Romans 5:8 reminds us, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Think about that for a moment. Before we ever repented, before we ever changed, before we even acknowledged Him—He already loved us enough to send His Son to die for us. That’s the kind of love that doesn’t change with circumstances, that doesn’t waver when we fall short.
God’s Love is Personal
We often think of God’s love in a general sense—He loves the world, He loves all people. And while that’s true, His love is also deeply personal. He doesn’t just love people — He loves you. He knows your name, your heart, your struggles, and your dreams.
Psalm 139:1-2 says, “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.”
God isn’t distant. He isn’t just watching from above. He is close, He is near, and His love is intimate and intentional.
God’s Love is Unchanging
Unlike the love we experience in the world, which can sometimes feel conditional or fleeting, God’s love remains the same.
Isaiah 54:10 says, “Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed, says the Lord, who has compassion on you.”
No matter what season of life you’re in, no matter what mistakes you’ve made, God’s love does not change. When you feel far from Him, He is still there. When you doubt, He still loves you.
Embracing God’s Love in Our Daily Lives
It’s one thing to know about God’s love, but another to fully live in it. So how do we embrace it?
1. Stop Trying to Earn It – His love isn’t something to work for. It’s already yours.
2. Accept His Grace – Let go of the guilt and shame that tells you you’re not enough. You are covered by His mercy.
3. Spend Time with Him – The more you get to know God through prayer and His Word, the more you will see His love at work in your life.
4. Let His Love Change You – When we truly grasp how deeply we are loved, it transforms the way we live, the way we love others, and the way we see ourselves.
A Love That Never Fails
At the end of the day, there is no greater truth than this: You are fully known and fully loved by God. Not because of what you do, but because of who He is. His love is a gift, a love that pursues, redeems, and never lets go.
If you’ve ever doubted His love, if you’ve ever struggled to believe that He truly sees and loves you, I encourage you to sit with Him today. Let His Word remind you of the truth. You are loved beyond measure, exactly as you are.
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me in a way that is beyond anything I could ever comprehend. There are times when I struggle to believe I am worthy of Your love, but I know that Your love isn’t based on my worthiness—it is based on who You are. Help me to embrace that truth, to rest in Your love, and to live each day with the confidence that I am Yours. When I feel unworthy, remind me of Your grace. When I feel distant, draw me closer to You. Thank You for loving me unconditionally, unshakably, and personally.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
